In 1930, the Western Golf Association and celebrated amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. established the Evans Scholars Foundation. Their mission was to provide full tuition and housing college scholarships to caddies with limited financial means.
The first two Evans Scholars enrolled at Northwestern University in 1930. Since then, we’ve helped more than 11,000 hardworking young men and women get to college. Our Evans Scholars Program addresses the barriers to college graduation faced by students and prepares them for a lifetime of success.
The Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. To qualify, caddies must meet the requirements of having a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character.
Evans Scholars attend one of 18 leading universities nationwide. They live and work together in community, with each chapter electing its own officers, running social and service activities and participating in campus programs.
The support provided by the Evans Scholars Program helps students achieve a cumulative 3.3 GPA and 95 percent graduation rate. Over 98 percent of 2019 graduates were employed full time or attending graduate school within six months.
Our Alumni make up a vibrant network of successful men and women committed to giving back. They have become successful teachers, doctors, lawyers and CEOs across the country and the world. They run major corporations; are industry leaders in fields like transportation, oil and medicine; and have been appointed by U.S. presidents to serve on advisory committees.
We're proud of the history of golf as a walking game. The core values that underscore a caddie's presence on the course are the same ones that make them successful later in life.
That's why we help young men and women learn to caddie, assist clubs in starting new caddie programs and work to improve existing programs.
The WGA Caddie Academy is a special summer program that provides caddie opportunities to under-resourced high school students who ultimately hope to pursue an Evans Scholarship. Students come from all across the United States to caddie at clubs in the Chicago area while living together.
Through the Caddie Academy, they have the chance to earn money, meet role models and learn valuable life lessons on and off the golf course. After successfully completing three summers, they become eligible to apply for the Evans Scholarship.
Since 2012, 55 graduates of the Caddie Academy have earned full tuition and housing Evans Scholarships.
Carry the Game is a nonprofit advocacy group aimed at increasing the number and diversity of youth caddies nationwide. By promoting the life-changing benefits of caddying, Carry the Game is preserving the tradition of golf for its future by developing lifelong players.
This WGA-led effort also receives support from partners like the World Golf Foundation, United States Golf Association, PGA of America, The First Tee and Youth on Course.
The Caddie Hall of Fame highlights the tradition and importance of caddying by recognizing individuals who devoted their lives to the game of golf through caddying or by supporting the role of caddies.
Past Hall of Fame inductees include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., Francis Ouimet, Steve Williams, Jim “Bones” Mackay and the Murray Brothers.

Right to incorporate corporate name and logo into the tournament name in a mutually agreeable fashion (e.g. Evans Scholars Invitational presented by Company) • During the Championship, Company would be the only brand featured in its category: o On-site branding at the Championship o WGA communications and publications (including website and social media channels o Korn Ferry Tour home webpage, scoring leaderboard page, and tournament pages
As Presenting Sponsor, Company would have access to TOUR and WGA resources who would help tell the story of the Evans Scholars Foundation.
